Another Color of the Year 2015: Coastal Surf is the most influential for Interior Design

      One of the largest North American paints manufacturers, Kelly-Moore Paints, wanted to know the opinion of those who decide daily for their customers, and organized a survey in the second half of last year.

      As a result, more than 15000 specialists in interior design (members of AIDS – American Society of Interior Designers) voted colors produced by Kelly-Moore and first place in the final ranking was occupied by: Coastal Surf KM4967 – the color of the year 2015 in interior design.

      Described as a saturated and atemporal blue, Coastal Surf is a deep color that allows an easy integration in many styles of interior design, from modern to traditional, both as a predominant color and as emphasis.   

      The most important conclusion of the survey was as follows: interior design it’s not about a single color! At very small distance ranked two other colors: a turquoise with a strong aquatic tropical accent and a classic gray - Swager KM5049 and City Tower KM5823.

      Surprisingly, it was found that these 3 colors are fully compatible and easily adaptable in interior design, in both versions, combined or separate. So Kelly-Moore specialists have decided that the trend of this year won’t belong to a single color, but to a trio: the most influential colors are occupants of the first three places in the final standings, Coastal Surf KM4967, Swager KM5049 and City Tower KM5823.

      The response of the North American designers are based on end-customers requirements, thus the poll result was not a surprise to many of them. There is already a growing demand for more dramatic and darker interior colors, and this ranking confirms the predictions that a shift will be made from warm to cool colors used in interior design. Some skeptics might say that it’s a normal reaction to global warming...

      Annually, since 1990, Pantone Color Institute has nominated The Color of the Year, this forecasting the trends that will be followed by manufacturers or consumers from various fields (interior design, art, fashion, lifestyle or even gastronomy).

      Pantone is unanimously acknowledged as a worldwide authority in the area of expression of creativity, exploration and hues standardization.

Gary Hamel through this book reminds us why he is considered a world expert in business strategy, but more importantly, confirms why he self-labeled himself: "Occasional teacher. Management renegade. Fan of innovation."

"What matters now" is an ardent plea for innovation, not just for products and services, but for reinventing management and even the organization of existing institutions. Using real examples of organizations that have succeeded in surprising innovations and management approaches, such as Morning Star, WL Gore and HCL Enterprise (self-managed organizations, achieved by a real reversal of the organizational pyramid), Gary Hamel manages to be extremely convincing and raise strong questions regarding the reliability of existing organizations, as well as their chances of survival, whether they are small, medium, or even multinational corporations.

The author is a harsh critic, thus objective, of the current situation, just because it is a supporter of the capitalist system and therefore proposes to save it by rethinking the fundamental assumptions that underlie capitalism, organizations and professional life within them.

"If people around the world have lost confidence in the business, this happened because the businesses have abused that trust."

Briefly, a book full of original ideas and advice, dotted with numerous eloquent examples, which raise questions regarding "what matters now" and give a lot of thought about what and how we can do differently now.
